It started as an online repertoire database so that guitar students from the Los Angeles Guitar Academy could hone their skills between lessons in the privacy of their own homes. Demand for the service grew; the service's reputation grew by word-of-mouth, until the academy expanded this service into a stand-alone program which has attracted students from all over North America.
Building on that resounding success, the Los Angeles Guitar Academy formally introduced its online guitar lesson platform, LAGA Online, to the public in January of 2009.
LAGA Online has something for every guitarist, from beginner to advanced--whether Flamenco, classical, or pop is their main playing style. Its systematic, conservatory-quality curriculum, provides more than two thousand videos which cover classical guitar, Flamenco guitar, pop and rock guitar, fingerboard theory and more. In addition to LAGA Online's on-demand programs, guitar students can take live one-on-one lessons--virtual private lessons with LAGA's world-class faculty in the comfort of the student's own home! With this sort of technology, students from all over the world can learn to play from some of the best instructors in the world!
LAGA's founders, Dr. Emre Sabuncuoglu and Dr. Thomas Foster, sequence the tutorials in each program by skill sets and proficiency levels. The easy-to-use video platform gives students written instructions on part of the screen, while the teacher demonstrates the skill or musical selection on another part of the screen. They supplement these lessons with sheet music files, articles, tips, technical and musical comments. They have now added an added benefit for their students--e-books containing supplemental information to enrich the students' learning experience. LAGA online lessons progress in small steps in order to provide students with the opportunity to master each new skill set. Students learn at their own pace, taking time to understand each concept before moving on the next.
Private online guitar lessons require only a webcam, a microphone, and a medium-high speed Internet connection. LAGA Online is one of the few guitar studios to offer a live private lesson option.
